Summer Food Security VISTA
Spend your summer working to build food security in Portland! The Cumberland County Food Security Council is hiring one Americorps VISTA Summer Associate.
The Summer Associate will focus on two main projects: supporting summer meals programming for Portland, ME Public Schools and working with the Cumberland County Food Security Council Gleaning Initiative. Summer meals are provided by Portland Public Schools Food Services free of cost to students and families and are available at various sites throughout the city of Portland. The Summer Associate will help train summer meals volunteers, advertise summer meals on social media, and support enrichment activities. The Gleaning Initiative harvests excess produce from local farms and gardens and redistributes it to communities throughout Cumberland County. The Summer Associate will help harvest and collect local produce, coordinate gleaning volunteers, staff community share tables, and assist in redistribution to community organizations.
The full-time (35-40 hours/week), 8-10 week term begins on June 12 or June 26. Applicants must be 18 or older. Transportation required. Benefits for this commitment include: A biweekly stipend of $791; choice of AmeriCorps Education Award (scholarship) OR cash stipend upon completion; and professional development/training.
